121002 My New Car Now Isn’t

Saturday, we had an overload of activity. Every Saturday morning, I have a TOPS meeting. It is also a good time to shop for groceries since I’m up and out and thinking about nutritious food. This particular day, my dad was buying us lunch at a wonderful place in Hondo. We have been eating at Hermann Sons since I was a little girl, and the food is always great. Afterwards, Agent Em wanted to go to a Homestuck Meetup (Don’t ask. It’s a teenaged fangirl thing.) OK. I could drop her off in that field by the zoo. We had a window. After the meetup, there was a party at the dojo. Moon was working daytime, but planned to get her sister and go to the party. I was happy that I could miss that part. Initially, I thought Moon would be picking up Agent from her meeting by the zoo. She needed a nap, so I went to get Agent.

I took the wrong exit and got lost.

After a series of wrong turns, I ended up wandering through Brackenridge Park. For those who don’t know, the roads are narrow with no lines or shoulders, and big trees grow next to the pavement. I knew, however, that the zoo was nearby. I took a fork, and immediately changed my mind. Frustrated because I was very late, I shifted into reverse and gunned the engine. Yep. A fat, old scrub oak jumped into my path and laughed as my bumper crunched into it. I screamed. No one heard me. The park was empty. It was raining.

The car moved with a shake, so I continued to the zoo to get Agent. On the highway, we noticed a new noise and a little shimmy at speeds above 50mph. *sigh* On Monday, I took it to Ancira Body and asked if it would cost more than $500.00. The assessor crawled under the car and said, “Call your Insurance.”

So, I am car-less for the week at least. Two of the brackets holding the bumper to the frame are broken. We don’t know yet if anything else is toast. The insurance adjuster will be there on Thursday. I bought the Forte from Ancira Kia for the good repair Ancira Body had done on the Rio when it was crunched. Their Service Department keeps me happy. I like happy. Sigh. Cars…
