I’m much better now. A friend posted a web site, and I took their test. My basic political views have not changed in thirty-five years, and it was what I learned forty years ago that convinced me that Communism and Socialism were pipe dreams that lead to totalitarianism. What one learns as a teen is important. From my teens and early twenties, I have been able to count among my personal friends certain ex-Soviets.
In 1978, a friend took me to a political rally where I met my first candidate. That candidate expressed ideas that I had kept private in the face of my peers’ enthusiastic opposition. Today, I took a political test, and had my children take it too. Afterwards, my elder daughter confessed that she used to think that she didn’t like politics. Then, she found some people who express different views. She decided that it wasn’t ‘politics’ that she didn’t like; it was certain prevailing political views that she didn’t like.
Yeah, me too.
